The Catcher in the Rye
The Catcher in the Rye is a well-known book, and considered a classic, but personally I did not enjoy it at all. To me the book just seemed like a waste of time, the entire novel centered on the dellusions of a fifteen year old boy, mixed with alcohol and Post-Traumatic Stress disorder. The ending of the novel was very abrupt as well which added to the torment of reading, since no definitive ending was given. This novel was only readable for the clever uses of symbolism, such as the ducks in the pond, and the hat that Holden wears. But, based on stroyline alone, it was a dissapointing read, it was depressing, uneventful, and had a main character that is very hard to relate to. The beauty in this novel was the symbolism, and that was few and far inbetween.
